The purpose of the organization is to initiate, sponsor, promote and execute practices that will further the profession of interpretation of American Sign Language/English and transliteration of English.

NYC Metro RID membership has established the following objectives as found in our by-Laws:

To maintain communication with the national organization, with local members and with other affiliate chapters

To maintain and promote the Code of Professional Conduct for interpreters as put forth by the NAD and the National RID.

To provide professioinal development of interpreters and information to the general public regarding the field of interpreting

To support the activities of organizations of and for persons who are Deaf and hard of hearing and organizations in related fields

To raise funds to support the purpose and activities of the organization

To publish and distribute annually a directory of members
