Metro Committee work is done by volunteers. CMP
- The CMP committee oversees the earning of continuing education units (CEUs) by RID members. This includes coordinating CEU approvals for Metro-sponsored workshops and approving outside projects by which members earn CEUs: PINRAs, independent studies and academic coursework. CMP committee members can help members to design independent studies, determine what activities can qualify for CEUs and complete necessary paperwork. Types of activities sponsored:
Sponsored activities
Together the Professional Development Committee and the CMP Committee establish the amount of CEUs to be earned in sponsored activity. Attendees need only sign the CEU form at the activity to earn CEUs. Upon completion of the event, the CMP will report the CEUs earned to national RID. Attendees will receive a certificate of completion as proof of their attendance and number of CEUs earned. PINRAs Participant-Initiated Non-RID Activities (PINRAs) are workshops, classes and seminars given by institutions or organizations other than RID or another approved sponsor. Attendees must fill out the appropriate form, submit appropriate payment and receive approval from the CMP committee before the activity takes place. National RID requires paperwork be received by the CMP committee in hard copy at least thirty days before the event begins. Upon completion of the activity, proof of attendance must be sent to the committee within 14 days. Proof of attendance may be a certificate of participation or a letter signed by the instructor. Proof of payment does not constitute proof of attendance. Academic Coursework Academic coursework qualifies for CEUs when study took place at an accredited institution and the interpreter earned a grade of C or better. CEUs may be granted retroactively, as long as study took place within the interpreter’s current CEU cycle. Interpreters must fill out the Academic Coursework form and mail it with payment and an official
transcript from the academic institution, showing the credits and grade earned for the class, to the CMP
committee. CEUs are earned according to the following formula: Independent Study Interpreters who wish to design their own courses of study may earn CEUs through independent studies. An independent study could include reading, researching or developing materials that will enhance one’s skills or knowledge for interpreting work. The applicant can work with the CMP committee to develop specific learning objectives and to determine how learning objectives will be concretely measured. They can also collaborate to determine a timeline for completion and the number of CEUs to be earned. Please note that one hour of reading or research does not necessarily equal .1 CEU. Each independent study is evaluated individually, and depending on the plan of study, two or three hours of study may equal .1 CEU. The applicant must fill out the appropriate paperwork and submit payment before study begins. Once the independent study has been completed, all proof of learning must be sent to the CMP committee for evaluation. Once the committee is satisfied that the work as been completed, the CEUs will be approved and reported to national RID.
