Calling all Members Familiar with Parliamentary Procedures!

Are you an NYC Metro RID member who is familiar with
Robert's Rules of Order
and the writing of motions?
If so, we could use your help either as a "volunteer parliamentarian" or "motion writing advisor" at future membership meetings.  According to NYC Metro RID Bylaws, "unless otherwise provided by the membership, all meetings shall follow Robert's Rules of Order (Revised)".

Robert's Rules of Order provides common rules and procedures for deliberation and debate to help ensure that business meetings run smoothly and that each member is treated fairly.  The designated parliamentarian would advise and assist the presiding officer and other officers and members with procedural issues.  The motion writing advisor would be available to help members compose motions if needed.

If you are interested in helping out at one or more of the upcoming
membership meetings,
please contact
VicePresident@nycmetrorid.org.
Thank you for your time and consideration!

Check out the calendar on the
professional development page. email webmaster@nycmetrorid.org with additions or
corrections.

Government Relations Committee

NYC Metro RID is seeking members interested in becoming involved with the newly formed "Government Relations Committee" with Christopher Tester. This committee will be similar to the RID's Government Affairs Program (GAP). GAP ensures that everyone has a voice in government programs (such as the FCC). The FCC has begun to look into the criteria that defines qualifications of an interpreter.  They looked into how to raise the standards of interpreters. It is a place where people could go and ask questions.

Our goal is to have a representation on pertinent task forces that are appearing through out the city that potentially have a direct impact on interpreters. An idea would be to have 2-3 people to be "on call" for reach out purposes and to attend events – become visible to government officials such as the NYC Mayor's Office, the City Council Speaker Christine Quinn,  the Office of Court Administrations and VESID are among some examples. We as an organization need to build a relationship with government agencies.

This will require brainstorming sessions to create a structure of the committee, and establish clear goals and objectives. If you are interested, please e-mail Chris Tester at president@nycmetrorid.org

Thanks!
