Emergency Fund

Awards Stipends

Metro RID Emergency Fund

Metro offers a way to help its own members in times of need.

Metro NYC RID cares deeply about its membership. We feel that the field of interpreting should not only be committed to our work, but each other.

In keeping with this spirit, and recognizing that we are all part of a greater community, we wish to offer an Emergency Fund for our interpreter members who find themselves faced with a crisis and in need of some modest financial support.

The committee defines Emergency as "an unexpected crisis which impinges on the interpreter's ability to meet financial obligations". This could be a sudden mental or physical illness of someone in your family (your child, partner, or yourself); or some other event which impinges on the ability to meet obligations.

This is NOT an income replacement fund. This is a financial obligation assist.

A $1,000 annual cap per applicant has been established for this fund.

The applicant must be a Certified or Associate member of NYC Metro RID to qualify for consideration.

TO APPLY FOR FUNDS:

Send an email with
"EMERGENCY FUND APPLICATION" as the subject
to the Chair of the Committee at
:
EmergencyFund@nycmetrorid.org .

Include your name, address, phone # and email.
**Briefly describe the situation and how it impacts the ability to meet specific financial obligations.

The committee chair will contact you to ask for more information.

Please do NOT contact the Board. This will preserve your anonymity.

*After the initial info is sent via email, the chairperson will follow up with an e-mail or phone conversation.
*The chair then brings the request to the committee, without disclosing the applicant's name and a decision is made.
*If funds are awarded the Treasurer will send a check.

*Only the Committee Chair and the Treasurer will know the name of an awardee.

Please understand that the committee may decide to award any amount up to $1,000; however, there is no guarantee of funds from Metro.

Requested amounts may be given in full, part, or denied. An applicant may only apply once a year. The committee will make every effort to grant as many awards as possible. When determining awards the committee will consider the applicant's avenues of other support such as other work benefits available, sick and vacation days, partner's income, etc., when making their determination.

The committee will try to award as many requests as possible, however, our funds are very modest. In the event that you were granted funds and find you no longer need them, we would kindly ask that it be returned for another who is in need.
